It’s R Day my friends, and I would like to introduce you to Supermurgitroid Robot No. 200.

Do-Gooder Robot No. 200 came rolling into the house ready to explore the human world! They wanted to know all about humans and how they function, and what makes them tick. They were so interested in human interaction and just wanted to sit and observe people for many hours. They had big plans, a notebook full of questions and I realized it was laid out like a science experiment!

I found Do-Gooder Robot No. 200 at the mall one day, notebook in hand, gauges beeping and booping. They were getting very close to people sometimes, and I could tell it was unnerving some. I had to take them aside and explain that most people would appreciate a space invader, and that they’d likely get more truer results if they observed from further away because they’d get to see people more naturally interacting.

After about a week of Do-Gooder Robot No. 200 spending time observing and collecting data from afar, they came home and announced that they now needed to process the data. They locked themselves in their room and we could hear loud clicking, beeping, boops. They were in there for a few days before we decided we better check on them.  We were shooed away. So, we waited.

When Do-Gooder Robot No. 200 finally emerged from their room, they were wobbly and having trouble rolling on their feet. They were off-kilter like they needed an alignment. Their gauges seemed twisted up too.  We rushed to see how we could help.

Do-Gooder Robot No. 200 started sputtering that the data didn’t make sense, they mumbled about no logical connections and no concrete fixed constants…they were quite unintelligible for a while. We finally got them calmed down, but they never really straightened out again.

They asked me how we do it, how we manage our world, and how it all works. I didn’t have answers to everything, but I did tell them that sometimes humans get help when they need it. And right away they wanted to be part of that help, so they decided to be a Do-Gooder for the Canadian Mental Health Association, and they’re hopeful that by being a Do-Gooder they’ll be able to help make someone’s world a better when they need it.

It’s R Day my friends, and I would like to introduce you to Supermurgitroid Robot No. 156.

When Robot No. 156 came through the portal, we barely got to say hello and welcome them and they were already asking questions about dinosaurs, archaeologists, paleontologists, and prehistoric times. To say they’re enthusiastic about dinosaurs is a gross understatement, but I don’t think we have a word that quite encompasses all of it.

They were thrilled when they found out that Morden Manitoba has fossils of the Mosasaurus, and Drumheller has the interactive museum, Regina has the world’s largest T-Rex, and British Colombia has the dinosaur discovery centre. They are beside themselves that Canada has such a rich history of dinosaurs, and that there are so many places they can learn more about them!

We had to commemorate Robot No. 156’s first visit to the museum and we got them a toy dinosaur. They couldn’t be happier running around the house roaring and stomping about!

It’s R Day my friends, and I would like to introduce you to Supermurgitroid Robot No. 11.

Robot No. 11 came bounding out of the portal with a large grin on their face. The very first thing they asked was, Is it true there is a holiday centered around a bunny and chocolate?

I had to blink a couple of times, and realized they were talking about Easter. I said yes, and they were just abuzz with the idea that their favourite time of the year, spring, also had an amazing holiday attached to it. They wanted to know if it was true that the Easter bunny hid chocolate throughout the house, and what kind of magic was used to dye eggs, and could the eggs be eaten afterward, and what did eggs have to do with bunnies?

I didn’t have all the answers, but I promised we could do as many Easter activities as we could fit into the days ahead of the big day. We dyed hard-boiled eggs, and Robot No. 11 was floored about the scientific transformation of the egg, and then in awe of the array of colours we were able to create using the food colouring.

They’d heard about Christmas, and how leaving cookies for Santa and carrots for the reindeer were nice things to do, why didn’t the Easter bunny get the same? I hadn’t thought of that before, so we tried. We left out a few carrots and some flowers for the bunny, and Robot No. 11 swears that more chocolate was hid around the house than there would have been without. So now we have a new Easter tradition!

It’s R Day my friends, and I would like to introduce you to Supermurgitroid Robot No. 93.

Do-Gooder Robot No. 93 wants to share their light with everyone. Their favourite saying is “When we all shine, imagine how bright the world will be!” And I agree, and I also think it will be so much easier to get everyone to shine with Robot No. 93 in our world.

They are a fabulous ear to talk to, a soft shoulder to lean on, and are gentle with all the feelings that get shared with them. They want everyone to know that we each have a light inside of us that the world needs. Robot No. 93 wants to help us all find our light, where is the power switch, what do we need to move out of the way to turn it on?

They are one of the most gentle beings I’ve ever met. They will truly find you in the dark, and help you out in any way they can. That’s why they’re a Do-Gooder for the Canadian Mental Health Association.

It’s R Day my friends, and I would like to introduce you to Supermurgitroid Robot No. 92.

Robot No. 92 heard some humans talking about giving their heart to someone, unfortunately, Robot No. 92 took them literally. They went to the butcher and asked for a few pig’s hearts, which they put into their body cabinet. They wanted to give a heart to people they feel very special about, and luckily (thankfully) I was one of the first!

It was so very sweet of Robot No. 92 to want to share their love and admiration with me. But when they gave me a heart, it had already turned black, and started to decompose. I had to explain why this wasn’t the greatest idea, and had to explain what they overheard the humans likely talking about.

While they were slightly embarrassed about their gaffe, Robot No. 92 decided that going forward they will put paper cut-out hearts in their cabinet to give out!

It’s R Day my friends, and I would like to introduce you to Supermurgitroid Robot No. 137.

Robot No. 137 was ready for the holiday season. They’d been prepared by some of the others and they could barely contain their excitement. They began a count-down in September, and by November they were bursting at the seams!

They began collecting ideas for gifts for so many friends, all they wanted to do was spread joy. (I shouldn’t have been surprised considering their gauge is for cheer!)

They definitely succeeded, they put smiles on so many faces with thoughtful, mostly homemade, gifts that uplifted everyone’s spirits.

It’s R Day my friends, and I would like to introduce you to Supermurgitroid Do-Gooder Robot No. 177.

When Robot No. 177 came through the portal and saw that Robot No. 174 is still making pies from their gigantic pumpkin they couldn’t contain their excitement. They started beeping and booping and buzzing about the kitchen talking about how they’d heard of these things called “pies” and how humans have such strong opinions about them and what goes into them and how everyone has their own recipe and they’re all a bit different and how in some places you could even win a blue ribbon for a good pie!

I wasn’t sure we’d ever be able to calm Robot No. 177 down enough to answer some of the questions that were streaming out of them, let alone to sit down and look at a pie. They’re now busy reading through all my cookbooks learning all about baking and pies especially. Every once in a while, they talk to themselves and I can hear them saying things like, “A savoury pie, what?!” as they lean in closer, or “I wonder if coating the crust with chocolate….”

I love how voracious their curiosity is and I’m so glad that once they’re done with my cookbook collection we have the library we can go to! And because they have learned so much about food, they’ve decided to be a Do-Gooder for World Central Kitchen.

It’s R Day my friends, and I would like to introduce you to Supermurgitroid Do-Gooder Robot No. 174.

Do-Gooder Robot No. 174 is quiet, and is often more of an observer and introvert than in the middle of all the excitement. They quietly came through the portal one day, and are always pleasant and kind, but sometimes it’s a bit easy to miss them if you don’t really see them because they are so quiet. They often follow us along and just take everything in.

Before Halloween, Robot No. 49 and Robot No. 173 were deep in Halloween preparations, and sent a bunch of robots out to the pumpkin patch to get the best possible pumpkins. Somehow it got missed that Robot No. 174 wasn’t with the bunch when they returned.

Turns out Robot No. 174 had gone deep into the patch where the biggest pumpkins were and was deep in thought thinking about all the amazing possibilities these pumpkins held. They missed when everyone else was coming back. Which, actually worked out for them, because they were able to spend so much time deciding which pumpkin was the best. They weren’t upset when they’d realized the others had left, they just started walking home with their gigantic pumpkin.

Unfortunately, we had to break it to Robot No. 174 that they’d missed Halloween, and all the pumpkins had been carved. They looked a little disappointed, but shrugged their shoulders and said that it would still make the best pumpkin treats – like pie, doughnuts, and pudding!

Robot No. 174 wants to be a Do-Gooder for World Central Kitchen so everyone can have good food to make them feel good when they need it the most.

It’s R Day my friends, and I would like to introduce you to Supermurgitroid Do-Gooder Robot No. 127.

Do-Gooder Robot No. 127 also came through the portal with their pet, and I’ll tell you that my worries about having a dogbot around disappeared when I saw an octobot!

But I took a deep breath and asked some questions – I was mostly concerned about them getting started by our loud house, and dogbot, and leaving oily ink stains around; Robot No. 127 assured me that octobot was well trained – had to be so they could live on the ship!

I was also concerned whether they were rivals of Robot No. 44, Robot No. 58, and Robot No. 59 or not. Luckily, Robot No. 127 did know them, but they were friendly. I’ve learned that robot pirates are ab it less territorial and dramatic than our pirates here.

The joy they bring each other is palpable, and they were inspired to be Do-Gooders for the International Animal Welfare Fund.
