My Supermurgitroid Robot Friends are very special to me. When Robot No. 1 came through the portal and onto the page, I didn’t know who they were, I didn’t know why they came, but once I sat with them for a minute, I realized they had a story. And the next thing I knew there were 10 robot friends, and while I felt like I needed to share them, I felt funny sharing their stories, because I’d realized that their stories were my stories. My robot friends are a way for me to process my post-partum anxiety, my feelings, and living in a world that doesn’t feel real.

As you meet and read about my robot friends, my wish is for you to have your own experiences with or through these robots that makes your life better, even if just for a moment.

So, when I started sharing my Supermurgitroid friends on IG, I paraphrased their stories because I felt way too vulnerable to do their whole stories. I told myself I’d do R-Days to share their whole stories, that way it’s just once a month and maybe no one would see too much of me. Then when I started making prints of the robots, I decided to quietly include their stories with the prints and cards.

When I started seeing how the robots seemed to choose their own friends, I was curious. I’d see someone looking trying to decide between two robots, and I’d tell them that every robot has a story, and show them the backs of the prints. After reading the stories, the person would go, “I had been leaning toward this one, but now reading the story, this is exactly what I needed.”

It’s taken me a while, but I’ve realized that each of my robots have a story for a reason. These Supermurgitroid Robot friends are here to show us that we aren’t alone, that we each share similar feelings, and that we aren’t as different from each other as it may seem. While we are all unique, just as the robots are, there are common threads that connect us.

So, while these robot friends may look like toys, or like they’d be better suited to children, I believe they’re for every human. These robots are for every one of every age to experience in any way that creates calm, happiness, understanding, or whatever positive feeling that is needed in that moment. They’re here to remind us that there is whimsy and magic in the world, and that being our unique selves is part of that.

Please have a look, read the stories, and I so hope that you feel you have found a friend as you do!
